The drum is a part of native heritage from tribal cultures all over the world. This single sided shaman drum is a traditional native drum crafted using a wooden hoop or frame and a stretched rawhide head and lacing. Covered on only one side, the back is laced to form the symbol of a medicine wheel with the four cardinal directions that also serve as a hand hold. Great for drumming circles and meditation!

In this workshop you will be supplied everything you need to create your own frame drum and accompanying beater. While you are making your creations Valarie and Ian will teach you the care and feeding of your drum, as well as how to use them in healing and cleansing ceremonies. We will sing songs and tell stories throughout the day.

We will begin with a Drum Journey to connect to the Heartbeat of the Drum, and then start the process of creating our drums and beaters.  After creating the drum, we’ll celebrate its birth with a special ceremony.  Birthing a drum is an intense process, one not easily forgotten. The drum face can later be painted with your Animal Totem or designs. You can also personalize the drum with beads and feathers to strengthen the connection with your drum.

Cost & Materials: $165 includes all materials for a 16″ diameter drum and beater.  All other materials will be provided and are included in the price of the workshop. If you have some special beads or feathers which you’d like to decorate your drum you may also bring them.

Registration: Class is limited to 10 students only. $50 deposit and early registration is required.

Elle Kaplan has been teaching yoga since the early 1990’s. Being a teacher at heart, she has a strong desire to share what she has learned over the years. Elle’s love and passion for yoga shine through as she gracefully guides her students to a place where they can explore body, mind and spirit, and step into their greatest potential. Elle is Yoga Alliance E-RYT and Reiki Level 3 certified, and has completed the Yogasphere Teacher Training and countless advanced teacher training curriculums. Since 2005, Elle has been studying with Seane Corn and is honored to assist Seane in workshops, intensives, and teacher trainings throughout the country. In June 2009, Elle became a co-owner of Yogasphere, a union which has allowed Elle’s creativity to blossom and continue to serve the community both on and off the mat.

Come on a transformational journey through the 7 wheels of consciousness! After an overview of the Chakra System and Sound Healing, we’ll move through the 7 Chakras from root to crown in a guided meditation, learning experientially through sound about these spinning ‘wheels of light’ and their very practical application to our lives. Feel the soundscape of crystal singing bowls, and other sound healing instruments re-frequencing each chakra while finding your own unique, dynamic balance.
