Please feel free to invite any other Reiki Practitioners you know that are attuned to Level I and beyond. There is no charge for this sharing of energy; although donations are suggested for the Peace Center and snacks to share are always welcome. Please feel free to bring friends and family whom are not attuned, but would like to receive or experience Reiki.

“Introduction to Meditation” 

Curious about what it takes to start a meditation practice? Have you tried to meditate but just end up frustrated? Does you mind go a mile a minute? Do you feel like life is passing you by faster everyday? If you answered YES to any of these questions, then come join Shawn McGovern in this “Intro to Meditation” workshop. In this daily fast paced life we rarely recognize how important it is to slow down. In this workshop you will learn important tools to help calm your mind, open your heart and incorporate meditation into your daily life. We will discuss why meditation might seem impossible but is actually pretty simple. Shawn will talk about what meditation is and what it’s not. He will introduce you to the benefits of meditation and how it can help, not only physical, but mental ailments within your life. You will learn the importance of breathing (pranayama) and how it relates to your mind and your practice. During the workshop Shawn will teach how the breath can be used to keep your thoughts from being distracting and how the use of mantra techniques can overpower any busy mind. During the last half of the workshop you will be guided through a simple but highly effective meditation that will be comfortable for everyone. Afterwards, Shawn will take questions and discuss the easiest and most effective ways to build a good habit of daily practice. In the end, this workshop will leave you with the tools and confidence to begin your new journey as daily meditator. *Please bring a Yoga Mat (if you have one) and a firm pillow, thick towel, blanket, or bolster.

Presented by: Shawn McGovern is a certified meditation teacher, reiki master and owner of Breath of Lotus Meditation Center (www.breathofthelotus.net). Beginning years ago, as a frustrated meditator himself, Shawn began studying all forms of meditation to find the right one. Throughout the years he has compiled methods in order to teach meditation to those with even the busiest of minds. Along with his own techniques he is also a Level 1 meditation teacher through Ananda Worldwide, which is a community based on the universal teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. Shawn is also a yoga practitioner and is currently in yoga teacher training.
